Al & I rode this trail in both directions from Old Alton Trailhead last week, and there were only a few places still muddy from all the rain. I wouldn't recommend crossing the creek on the north side (aka "Alibird Crossing", after Alice Morgan & Bird Gierhart) -- the water is flowing and very high, and you can't see the submerged cement bags, so it could be dangerous. On the south side, we rode until we saw the huge gas drill near Bishop Lane, turning around as much because of the construction noise as the mud on the lower trail. That was still almost a 2-hour ride, so with another good weather week, it should be great riding! Leslie Olsson

Just rode this trail again yesterday, and it's still in great shape, with only a little mud. The big drilling rig is gone from the Bishop Lane area, so we only had to deal with the 2499 construction. The tunnel is still closed to riders, but it appeared the drainage was being worked on. We had unexpected company at the Old Alton Trailhead: a different construction crew was working on Copper Canyon Rd. towards Old Alton and the bridge, and needed to pull some big equipment into our lot. They waited patiently while we finished tacking up so we could get on the trail before they did so, but our horses' eyes were as big as saucers as they approached!
