Lewisville Lake Trail Heads
Pilot Knoll – Veal Spring Branch Trail head
This section of Trail is Approximately 8 miles and travels south from the Old Alton Road trailhead. This trail allows horses, hikers and dogs on leash. Pilot knoll is an easy beautiful trail with with a few loops and mostly sandy footing with a few rocky areas. There are two underpasses that occaisionally contain mud or water depending on the season. This trail has lake access where you can water your horses.
Elm Fork – North Shore Towards Corinth & Hickory Creek (Old Alton Road)
This section is Approximately 6 miles and goesnorth from the Old Alton Road trailhead. Elm Fork runs over the Old Alton bridge, then east thru Corinth to Sycamore Bend Park in town of Hickory Creek. This trail allows horses, hikers and dogs on leash. Due to creek crossings and some ravines this section can be challenging depending on the time of year. Footing is mostly sandy with a few rocky areas. NOTE: this trail currently has a difficult water crossing due to erosion.
Grapevine Lake Trails
Cross Timbers - Northwest Shore in Flower Mound (Dunham Road)
This trail is 3.5 miles long with a side loop that is about 1.5 miles long. This trail allows horses and hikers. From the trail head we have a small section of trail that is shared with mountain bikers before our two trail systems split to their own sections. This is a generally easy trail with two small open bridge crossings at the beginning. Use caution when crossing. This section of the lake floods easily so conditions change frequently. The footing is mostly sandy with some rocky areas along the way. This trail has some water access but watch for boggy areas along the edge of the lake.
Walnut Grove/Bob Jones- South Shore
Rocky Point - North Shore in Flower Mound (Limited Parking)
This trail is 4.8 miles long and is used by horses and hikers. This trail is moderately difficult due to narrow sections, creek crossings and a few steeper hill sections along side a creek. The footing is varied but mostly sand and sandy loam with one rocky slope. There are several unofficial side trails. Look for orange ribbons for main trail & signage. Best to use GPS to track. This is a good trail to ride with someone who knows the area, such as when offered as one of CTETA's monthly rides.
Trophy Club Park- Trophy Club
This trail can be ridden for short distances and up to 10 miles by combining side loops. Length (one way): Main Trail: 6 mi. This trail is located on the southwest portion of the lake, this trail is divided into an upper woodland trail and lower shoreline trail. This trail can be used by hikers and horses. This is an easy mostly wide trail with gentle slopes and lake access for watering horses. Footing is mainly sandy loam. There are a couple of creek crossings are relatively steep. Several sections of this trail can be taken over by the lake on really rainy years. Signage is limited on this trail so be aware of your surrounding if you leave the main trail. Visit Trophy Club Park if you are searching for a horseback riding experience where open and wooded trails collaboratively offer breathtaking scenery. Enjoy the fresh air that travels from Lake Grapevine filtering through nature while riding through miles of trails. TCP equestrian trails are open year round during designated park hours. This Trail Head is located inside the Trophy Club Park. There is a small entrance fee of $3/horse at the automated pay station and ample trailer parking. You will share these trails with hikers. There are several wide shallow water crossing and a few banks to traverse but trails are generally sandy and well maintained. Check their website for trail conditions and closures!
